WESTFIELD, Los Angeles County — Westfield Park Recreation and Parkways District No. 12 has published a new automated license plate recognition (ALPR) policy effective October 30, 2026, explaining how a pair of privately leased Flock Safety cameras are used at the neighborhood’s vehicle entrance.
Under the district’s policy, the two cameras record license plates and vehicle characteristics entering or leaving the approximately 280-home cul-de-sac community. The document says the volunteer park board can search data held in the vendor’s systems and has granted access to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lomita Station. The policy also describes limits on permitted uses and data sharing.
Privacy questions for residents
The district explicitly states that it does not download or store its own copies of the records and therefore does not control all aspects of their retention or distribution by the vendor. That distinction matters: a board statement that it holds no copies should not be interpreted as a claim that no camera records exist.
Residents can read the district’s published rules, including search authorization, audit requirements and restrictions on sharing, and submit questions through the park board’s official contact page. The publication of a policy does not independently verify compliance with every requirement.
